Abstract
291,505. Simpson, S. March 1, 1927. Gas meters.-Lubricating oil supplied to a tank a arranged in the valve chamber of a gas meter is fed to the compartments of a distributing reservoir d by means of an oscillating counterweighted lever b carrying a scoop b<1> which when in its lowest position dips into a sump a' in thetank. The lever b is mounted on a spindle h which is provided with an arm i carrying a piu or roller i<1> adapted to engage a cam j<2> on a spindle j. The spindle is rotated by the driving spindle l of the index mechanism through a spindle k and worm gearing l<1>, k<3>, k<1>, j<3>. The cam j<2> is so shaped as to depress the scoop b<1> slowly and allow it to rise quickly. The oil passes from the reservoir d through tubes f, g to fittings m on the slide valves n and through a tube e having branches q to the pivot pins p<1> of the connecting rods p. The tangent pin is supplied with oil from an orifice e<1> in the tube e. The outlet ends of the tubes f, g, q may be provided with wool plugs, wicks or regulating screws. The scoop b<1> may be adjustable in capacity or replaceable by a scoop of different capacity. The tank a may be supplied with oil by means such as are described in Specification 282,964.
