A float valve 5 is urged towards its closed position by a leaf spring 6 having one end fixed in the float chamber and the float 3, pivoted at 4, has an arm or lever 8 adapted to engage the free end of the spring 6 and move it away from the valve 5 to permit the valve to move by gravity towards its open position when the float falls below a predetermined level.
