Abstract

285,356. Drangsholt, C. Feb. 12, 1927, [Convention date]. Medicinal bath preparations.-Alkali humates, for instance the sodium or lithium salts or mixtures thereof, are used for preparing medicinal baths. Humic acid is obtained from peat by crushing, disintegrating with water and heating to 100‹ C., or by freezing followed by heating. The mass is then extracted with alkali carbonate or hydroxide or with sodium sulphide or acid sulphide. Acid is added to the humate solution so obtained to precipitate humic acid which is extracted with a solvent such as alcohol to obtain a substance consisting mainly of hymatomelanic acid from which alkali salts are prepared. Soluble humates, obtained by the freezing process referred to, may be treated directly with acid to obtain the humic acid. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the humic acid may be dissolved in alkali hydroxide and used without extraction with alcohol. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
