Abstract
Enzymes for use as therapeutic agents in treatment of malignant growths are obtained fruits of the prunus family particularly the apricot (prunus armeniaca) by purification of an enzyme complex extracted therefrom. The crude enzyme is dissolved in alkali, agitated with successive additions of chloroform, alcohol and ether and the enzyme is recovered from the chloroform layer in evaporation in the compressed air, dehydrated with alcohol and heating to not above 120 DEG F. For medicinal use the enzyme is dissolved in water dilute alkali or combined with blood serum to form an albumose. The crude enzyme complex may be obtained by the usual method for the extraction of emulsions or by extracting the ground material with ether, drying the residue, extracting with alcohol, treating the residue with dilute alkali and precipitating the enzyme from the alkali solution with alcohol.ALSO:Enzymes for use as therapeutic agents in treatment of malignant growths are obtained from fruits of the prunus family particularly the apricot (prunus armeniaca) by purification of an enzyme complex extracted therefrom.
