Abstract

283,248. Bowen, E. W. Sept. 9, 1926. Drying-furnaces.-A furnace, adapted particularly for drying fuel briquettes, comprises an elongated chamber a through which the fuel is passed on an endless conveyer f and which is provided at intervals along its length with individually controlled gas-burners b and waste gas outlets c. Between the crown of the furnace and the upper run of the conveyer is a perforated refractory baffle d composed either of spaced sheets as shown, or of bars which are chamfered at their lower edges to facilitate entry of the gases to the spaces between them. Pyrometers g are provided between the baffle d and conveyer f. The furnace is preferably operated so that the temperature gradually decreases from about 700‹ F. at the charging end to 500‹ F. at the outlet end. Detailed dimensions of the furnace are set forth in the Specification.
