Abstract

Retort furnaces. - Ovoid briquettes are carbonized in a vertical retort which is externally heated from the top downwards, by being introduced immediately into the hot zone, a portion of the distillates taken off at the top being re-injected into the bottom of the retort. The retort R, which is fed with the briquettes, is heated by combustion of gas from a pipe F with heated air from a pipe B<1> in flues G surrounding the retort, the hot combustion products leaving by a pipe K which heats the incoming air.
