Metal-heating furnaces; charging.-In a continuous furnace for heating metal plates comprising a number of channels 3, along which the plates 2 are supported in an inclined position by the side walls with adjacent plates set at opposite inclinations, as shown, the partition walls between adjacent channels are of such thickness that, when the plates fall flat in the combustion chamber at the exit end of the furnace, they will not overlap. At the feed end of the furnace the plates are placed on a charging-table formed with grooves 7<a> and upstanding ribs 7 of a triangular cross section, the inclination to the horizontal of the side faces of the ribs being rather greater than the inclinations of the plates when in the channels 3.
