Abstract
282,539. General Electric Co., Ltd., (Just, A.). Nov. 10, 1926. Vacuum tubes.-A thermionic cathode consists of a metallic core, for instance of tungsten, molybdenum, nickel, platinum or an alloy, permeated or coated with a mixture of oxides, the proportions of the oxides being about 1000: 1. The main constituent of the mixture may be an alkaline earth metal oxide, and the other constituent a small amount of the oxide of another alkaline earth metal, chromium or uranium or of a rare earth metal such as thorium, neodymium, praseodymium or samarium; or lanthanum oxide may be mixed with a small amount of an oxide of rare earth metal. Finely-divided molybdenum may be mixed with up to 3 per cent of the oxide mixture, and worked into wire by the usual methods. The oxides may be obtained from the corresponding azides.
