Abstract
272,440. Meyer, F., and Spanner, H. J. June 9, 1926, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-A cathode is coated with one or more salts of highly electropositive metals such as alkali or alkaline earth metals with an amphoteric oxide which is less acid than titanic acid; aluminates, zincates, chromites, and zirconiates are suitable. The salts may be applied to a core heated by passage of current, or substances producing the salts may be used; for example, a mixture of a carbonate of an alkaline earth metal' with hydrated or anhydrous aluminium or zirconium oxide, and a binding material, such as fluorides of alkaline earth metals, may be applied to a core and heated. Other electron-emitting materials such as oxides, carbides, and sulphides may be added. A metal or alloy giving an amphoteric oxide upon oxidation may be used as the core or as a coating on a core of another metal.
