Abstract

282,108. Budig, F., and Langen scheidt, R. Dec. 13, 1926, [Convention date]. Propelling by reaction on aerofoil surfaces.-A propulsion unit for ships comprises an aerofoil surface associated with the vanes and steering members. The ship I has a turret 2 pivotally mounted at 3 on a fore and aft axis and carrying a rotatable collar 6 having bearings for the shaft of an aerofoil 5. The aerofoil may be adjusted on its axis by pulley gearing and may be swung from a transverse to a fore and aft position as necessary. To take up lee-way, vanes 12. 13 project from the turrets, each vane being free within the limit of stops to take up a balanced position on its axes. A screw propeller unit is fitted. Steering is effected by a water-rudder 14 carried by the pivoted tail of the cabin which acts as an air rudder. Propulsion may be effected by swinging the turret on its axis.
