Rudders.-A ship's rudder comprises more than two parallel blades the two outer blades being at the edges and acting as guides for the wash of the ship or propeller. The blades 13 - - 17 are parallel and extend for a width equal to the propeller diameter. A rod 20 connects the blades whereby when the central member 15 is moved by the hand wheel 22 the other blades are moved simultaneously. The blades mav be moved independently or by auxiliary blades, and mav be balanced or not balanced. The blades may be used on a, stern or other paddle wheel steamer.
