Abstract

163,034. Bell, A. G., and Baldwin, F. W. May 7, 1920, [Convention date]. Propelling by aerial propellers; rudders. -In hydroplane vessels, hydro-aeroplanes, &c. employing sets of submerged hydrofoils at each side forward, the propulsion system consists of external side casings 26, 27, each having two sets of motors with aerial propellers and a similar arrangement centrally disposed at the stern but with a single motor. The side motor casing are carried by upright members 30, 32 and supported by suitable struts 33, 34 from the hull. A combined supporting and steering hydrofoil set, comprising spaced vertical struts with horizontal blades supported thereon, is centrally and pivotally supported at the stern near the rear propeller.
