Abstract
131,419. Siddeley-Deasy Motor Car Co., and Green, F. M. Aug. 14, 1918. Screw propellers. - Relates to propellers for aircraft of the kind in which the blades are so mounted on and coupled to the propeller shaft that their pitch is automatically varied by the forces acting on them. The blades a are mounted in sockets a<1> which are attached to the hub b by means of universal joints c, or alternatively by means of radial sockets and transverse pins, so that the blades are free both to rotate about their radial axes and to rock in a fore and aft direction. The sockets a<1> carry pivoted links h which are also attached to arms f carried by a collar g. The joints at both ends of the links are universal. By this construction, any rocking of the blades in a fore and aft direction causes a rotation of the blades so as to vary the pitch The collar g may be adjustable longitudinally along the hub b by means of a hand-lever so that the pitch of the blades may be varied directly by hand.
