Ink-ribbon mechanism. - In an automatic feed - reversal mechanism, a driving-shaft is moved longitudinally to reverse the feed by rolling engagement of a collar thereon with a cam connected to a guide which is moved by the tightening of the ribbon. The mechanism shown in the Figure comprises a driving-shaft 9 operated from the universal bar and having gears for alternately engaging gears on the spool-spindles 3, 4. The shaft is provided with collars 22, 23 for co-operating with normally disengaged cams 20, 21 mounted on shafts 18, 19 provided with arms 16, 17 which are connected to springs 25, 26 and have guide-rollers 14, 15 for the ribbon 24. When the ribbon has been wound off the left-hand or right-hand spool, the cam 20 or 21 is moved by the tension of the ribbon into engagement with the collar 22 or 23 and the collar and cam then co-operate by rolling engagement to move the shaft longitudinally and reverse the feed, the power for effecting the movement being derived from the universal bar.
