Abstract

280,242. Saarinen, O. A. Nov. 5, 1926, [Convention date]. Carburetting - apparatus.-The fuel is fed to, and evaporated from the surface of, a block 2 of porous material, such as gypsum, asbestos, pumice stone, brick or coal, provided with air passages 6, the extent of the evaporating surface and the number of air passages 6 in action being controlled by a slide 7. The level 4 of the fuel in the block may be controlled by adjusting the level in the float chamber supplying the fuel inlet conduit 5. In a modification, Fig. 4, in which the block 2 is provided with a square evaporating surface, the air passages 6, which may have parallel or diverging sides, extend across the square in the direction of motion of the slide 7. the block and air passages being provided respectively with transverse partitions 10, 9. In a further modification, in which the block is cylindrical and the air passages sector shaped in cross-section, both the block and the air passages are provided with concentric partitions, and the slide 7 may be replaced by an iris diaphragm.
