Unizersal joints.-A universal joint comprises a square intermediate block C. faced with removable friction plates D and slidably engaged by pairs of opposed claws B<2>, E', projecting from flanged shaft hubs B, E. The claws are so diminished that the joint can be assembled by sliding either member laterally over the other with the block C in position. The plates D may be withdrawn for renewal, without dismantling the joint, atfer removing screws d through apertures b, e in the claws. The space C<2> between the outer walls of the block C and the wall of a central aperture C' contains lubricant, which is fed to the surfaces of the plates D through passages c and felt &c. wicks d<1>.
