Abstract

278,975. Scott, D. T. April 27,1927. Two - stroke - cycle engines; pumps, piston.- An engine with oppositely-moving pistons 23, 26 has the upper piston 26 connected by outside rods 35 to cranks at 180‹ to the crank 21 to which the lower piston 23 is connected; mixture drawn in through ports 18 is compressed in the enlarged chamber 27 by the upper piston and enters the working chamber through ports 8, 9 and annular passage 7. To prevent formation of a vacuum in the pump chamber 27 during the down stroke of the piston 26 a bye-pass 38 with check valve 39 is provided from the mixture supply pipe 19 to the top of the chamber. Cooling fins 29 are formed on the top of the piston 26.
