Abstract

278,870. Dorman, Long, & Co., Ltd., and Kirby, M. R. Sept. 22, 1926. Penumatic conveyers.-Broken-down coal at the coal face is collected and directed to the inlet of a pneumatic conveyer by a shovel-like member u which is connected by a member g to the ram e of a hydraulic cylinder f. The rear end b of the. shovel is connected to a pipe i which telescopes in a pipe j forming part of the pipe line of the conveying system. The cylinder f and pipe y are secured together by a strap k. In a. modification, the shovel a, Fig. 2, is connected to two rams e and coal is directed to the pipe i by endless conveyers l. In another modification, a worm conveyer l, Fig. 3, comprising two equal worms w of opposite hands. directs the coal into the pipe i. Teeth y may be mounted on the worms for further breaking up the coal, and paddles z may be provided for directing the coal to the inlet.
