Abstract
278,547. Gough, H. T. W. April 30, 1927. Chimney and ventilating-shaft tops comprise two concentric series F, D of spaced vertical plates arranged above the orifice from the flue and surmounted by a cone or cap G, and the inner plates D are wholly or in part reduced in height so that a clear passage is provided between the tops of such plates and the level of the bottom of the cap G. The outer plates F are arranged so as to protect the gaps between the inner plates D, and both series of plates are mounted on an apertured diaphragm C carried by a truncated cone B extending into the flue A. The truncated cone G may be provided with slanting openings J protected by cover-pieces K bent out from the cone, and the whole top is surmounted by a nest of louvres. The plates F' may constitute the supporting means for the cowl G, or legs L, to which the plates F are connected, may be provided. In the case of a ventilating cowl, the cap is closed at the top.
