Abstract

278,326. Atlas-Werke Akt.-Ges. Oct. 1, 1926, [Convention date]. Clutches; operating clutches.-In electrically-driven anchor winches, haulage capstans, &c., having a friction clutch 2 releasable under overload by spring-opposed axial motion of the worm-shaft 1 due to reaction between the worm 4 and driven wheel 5, an auxiliary spring maintains the clutch-pressure under light shocks. The main spring 6 acts through a disc 9 to hold the clutch plates 8 against a presser-plate 10, which is acted on by a bell-crank lever 11, 12 connected by a rod 16 to a hand-lever 13. The rod 16 slides, to an extent determined by an abutment such as nuts 18, through a sleeve 14, preferably adjustably connected to the lever 13, and is pressed by the auxiliary spring 17. The lever 13 is held by a pin 20 in the engaging-position, so that the pressure on the plates 8 is maintained by the spring 17 when the shaft 1 moves to the left, until the nuts 18 strike the sleeve 14. The clutch can be disengaged at any time by actuation of the lever 13.
