Abstract

4512. Latil, A. G. Feb. 23. Clutches.-The main friction clutch on a motor road vehicle is operated by screw-and-nut mechanism and provided with means for adjusting the sliding member for wear. In Figs. 1 and 4, the sliding clutch member 5 is riveted to a screwed sleeve which is prevented from rotating, and engages a nut 8 that is prevented from moving longitudinally. To release the clutch members, the nut 8 is rotated against the action of the spring 21 by depressing the foot-pedal 6, which is provided with a pneumatic buffer 25 to prevent the clutch members re-engaging too suddenly. To adjust for wear, the connecting-link 7 and the spring are removed from the nut, and the latter is then rotated into a new relative position, after which, the connecting link and spring are re-attached to the nearest hole of the series provided in the face of the nut.
