Abstract

14,163. Napier, J. S. July 10. Brakes.-Relates to means for operating and adjusting for wear the type of brake in which a cylindrical drum, provided on the shaft to be controlled, is acted on by interiorly fitted brake shoes. The brake shoes B, C are pivoted on a pin D, projecting from a fixed bracket E, and are normally held out of contact with the drum A by springs F, fixed at their upper ends to pins F<1> on the bracket E. The brake shoes are expanded by an operating-lever H, Fig. 2, pivoted at H<1> to a lever J, which is pivoted at J<1> to the bracket E, and acts against a lever G, pivoted at G<1> to the fixed bracket and provided with an adjustment screw K. When the lever H is moved in the direction of the arrow, so that its end bears against the jaw C<1>, Fig. 1, the link J is forced towards the left and actuates the lever G. The free ends of the levers G, H thus expand the brake shoes with equal pressure against the drum A.
