Fluid-pressure; electric; force-transmitting mechanism. - Means for locking brake mechanism in the applied position comprises a series of balls f disposed around the piston-rod c or the like adapted to wedge in a conical recess formed by a ring g. Disengagement of the balls for releasing the brake may be effected by hand or, as shown, by fluid-pressure admitted at II to raise the ring h. The device may be applied to the core of an electro-magnet; the disengaging member h being in this case the core of a second electro-magnet.
