Spring balances.- A spring balance comprises a derformable member in the shape of a ring of uniform thickness, and a multiplying mechanism disposed within the ring and constructed as an independent unit that can be removed as a whole from the balance. The deformable member or spring is composed of a short length of tube a, of circular, oval or other suitable shape, to which upper and lower eye-bolts b are attached by screws d. The indicating mechanism is carried by two plates secured to the packing piece e of the lower screw d, and comprises a rotatable pointer 2 registering with a graduated chart 3. The pointer is connected through a pinion z, sector t and link w to the long arm n<1> of a bellcrank lerver, the short arm n of which bears against the surface of a cap o that is screwed on to the head of the upper screw d. The mechanism may be adjusted by rotation of the cap o, and is caused to follow the deflections of the ring by a spiral spring 4. Specification 170,392 is referred to.
