Abstract

208,666. Caldwell, C. W. Feb. 20, 1923. Steelyard apparatus.-A weighing instrument comprising a pivoted beam and a poise movable along, the beam by a screw is provided on the beam with a dial having balanced weight-indicating hands connected to the poise by balanced transmission mechanism. The beam 2 is mounted on knife-edges 3 and carries a screw 9 provided at the ends with finger knobs 14. The screw passes through a nut 10 and is thus caused to move longitudinally when rotated. A heavy disc 15 fixed to the screw bears oz. graduations 20 and registers lbs. graduations 18 on a fixed plate 16. One end of the screw carries a gear wheel 24 which drives the gearing of an indicating dial 22 carried on the weigh beam at the customer's side of the machine. The dial is provided with two balanced hands indicating ozs. and lbs. Lost motion in the gearing is taken up by means of a spring 31.
