Abstract
276,475. Warburton, G. H. July 5, 1926. Film evaporators. - In a machine for solidifying or concentrating liquids, pastes &c. the liquid &c. is supplied by a pipe or otherwise to a series of drums or cylinders 1, 2, 3 and the powdered or granulated product is removed from the last drum 3 by a scraper 20. The shaft 7 of the last drum is hollow and is supplied with steam from a coil 11 by a pipe 10, the return to the coil being through a pipe 13 and a pump 14. The coil lies within a heating chamber 12 and may be heated in any manner, but means other than steam may be used for heating the drum 3. The drums 1, 2 may also be hollow and may be watercooled or otherwise. The drum 3 is driven by a belt 9 and fast and loose pulleys and is connected by gearing 6 with the other drums and by a belt 17 with the pump 14. The flow of liquid &c. is controlled and guided by inclined V-shaped guides 19 lying on the peripheries of the drums 1 and 2.
