[Class 46] A roller straining-machine for paper pulp comprises two beds 10, 12 of slightly spaced rolls with the beds arranged end to end with separate driving arrangements for the two beds and the material from the first bed passes to the second bed which also directly receives part of the main supply material. The two beds of rolls 14-19, 20-25 are downwardly inclined with the rolls slightly spaced and-the successive rolls in each bed revolve at a higher speed, the corresponding speeds in each bed being the same. Pulp to be strained passes from a tank 50 to the first bed 10 over an upper outlet 52 and to the second bed 12 over a lower outlet 54, the second bed 12 also receiving material coming from the first bed 10. The material coming from the first bed is washed by the main supply material directly fed to the second bed while the material leaving the second bed is washed clear of refuse by a shower pipe 138. The treated material passes over a shoot 100 to an endless belt conveyer 102.
