Abstract

Vehicle windows; vehicle-window opening and closing apparatus.- A pivoted flap through which the hand may be extended for signalling is provided in a sliding vehicle window and is actuated by means of links 1 - 3, at each side and a squared spindle which is rotated by means of a lever, slide, and pawl, 9, 10, 11, Fig. 4. When opened, the flap is held by a pivoted serrated catch 6 on the link 1 which engages a serrated plate 7 on the sash frame. When lowering the window into its recess, the engagement between the rail 8 and link 3 ensures the automatic closing of the pivoted flap. When closed, the flap is held by a spring catch 13 and recess 14 when the sash is lowered sufficiently to free the catch from engagement with a projection 8<a> on the waist rail. The window has fillets attached and preferably covered with velvet to slide in the fixed guides. A weather-excluding rubber strip 15 engages the flap when shut and a rubber bead or the like is provided to engage the top of the well. When the windows are wide, a steel reinforcing plate is fixed to the bottom sash frame.
