Abstract

275,116. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges., and Staib, K. March 5, 1927. Calcium, strontium, magnesium, zinc, and other chlorides.-A process for converting oxides into anhydrous fused chlorides consists in introducing the oxide in a state of fine subdivision with the aid of and suspended in ,a mixture of chlorine and carbon monoxide into a heated chamber where the conversion takes place. In a modification, instead of using carbon monoxide, a mixture of the finely-divided oxide and carbon is introduced into the chamber with the aid of chlorine alone.
