Abstract

274,279. Sneddon, (nÚe Devlin), T. July 24,1926. Stropping - apparatus. A sharpener for safety razor blades consists of a base 1 carrying a honing ring 2 of oilstone, leather, &c., and a spindle 6 rotatable on a central pin 5 and rotatably carrying a sleeve 10 and a sleeve 9 having thereon a pinion 8, which engages teeth formed on the periphery of a plate 4 supported within the ring 2. Mounted on the sleeves 9, 10 by means of lugs 13<a>, 14a, are the jaws 13, 14 of a blade-holder the lugs being held friction tight on the sleeves by clips 15, and the jaws being opened by projections 13<c>, 14<c>. In operation, the spindle 6 is rotated on the pin 5 by a handle whereby the pinion 8 is rotated, the first movement causing the blade-holder to swing over on the spindle until the blade contacts with the hone; further movement of the handle moves the blade round in contact with the hone, the holder slipping on the sleeves 9, 10. The other side of the edge is treated by reversal of the movement of the handle.
