Abstract

273,963. Warnant, E. Nov. 15, 1926, [Convention date]. Starting.-Multicylinder gas or other internalcombustion engines are started by first supplying light fuel to all the cylinders, then supplying this fuel to some of the cylinders while the rest draw in and compress the mixture employed for normal running, the composition of which can be properly adjusted before connecting all the cylinders to the supply of normal running mixture. In the, four-cylinder engine shown, the cylinders 1 - - 4 are connected in two groups by pipes 7 to a valve casing 8 connected by a pipe 10 to a light fuel carburettor 11 and by a pipe 12 to a gas producer 13 or a carburettor working with the normal running fuel. A valve 9, in the starting position shown, connects all the engine cylinders to the carburettor 11. In the position 14, the valve connects the cylinders 3, 4 to the carburettor 11 and the cylinders 1, 2 to the gas producer 13 ; the mixture from the producer 13 is then adjusted and the valve turned to the normal running position 15, connecting all the cylinders to the producer 13.
