Work-holders.-A device for guiding work such as rolled or profile bars in machine tools such as boring- machine comprises guide rollers 1, 2 arranged to rotate about perpendicular axes, and a pressure roller 3 located within the angle subtended by the guide rollers and mounted on a lever jointed to a pivoted supporting- arm 8. The pressure roller is kept in position by a weigh 7 or spring 6 or both. The guide rollers may be mounted on a common frame 10 movable on a guide 11 and supported by a spring 12 so that when, for instance, punching operations are performed the work may be lifted. clear of the die- 'block between successive feeds. In another modification two sets of roller frames 10 and pressure rollers are mounted on vertical supports 14 on a carriage 13 moving on rails to give cross feed to the work. The rollers 1 may be connected by chain gearing and fitted with hand wheels. The cross-feed of the carriage may be effected from a hand-wheel 18 which through worm gearing rotates an arm 16 jointed to a link 17 pivoted to a fixed point A. For long work of light section auxiliary supports mounted on smaller carriages may be used, these supports comprising an inclined roller 19 mounted on a fixed axis and a vertical guide roller 20. The rollers 20 may be removable in order that channel-shaped bars may be inserted from above.
