Exhaust-silencers.-Means for varying the extent to which exhaust is silenced comprise a casing a divided into a number of chambers d, e, f, g by pairs of baffles h, i having holes o which may be brought more or less into register as desired. The baffles h fit the casing a which is oval in cross-section and the baffles i fit a flat bar p which passes loosely through holes in the baffles h, the baffles being retained against collars on the bar by pins v. The bar is fixed to extensions s of the exhaust pipe t which has a flange u and is held by a bolt and nut above the entrance b for the exhaust. The registration of the holes o is effected by rotation of the exhaust pipe t.
