Abstract
269,773. Baule, M. E. A. Aug. 21, 1926. Periodic-counter speed indicators.-An indicator for use with a ship's log comprises a pointer 53 driven by a spindle carrying a soft iron disc 52 which is disposed between an electromagnet 51 driven by the motor 50 which is operated by the log, and a fixed electromagnet 54. The magnets are excited alternately for fixed periods by a clockwork &c. 55. When the magnet 51 is excited the disc 52 is rotated and the pointer is moved to a position depending on the speed of the ship, being held in this position when the magnet 54 is excited. When neither magnet is excited the pointer is automatically restored to its zero position. The motor 50 also drives a totalizer 56.
