Abstract

Air, supplying; liquid, gaseous, and pulverulent furnaces.-In a solid, liquid, or gaseous fuel furnace means are provided in the fore furnace arch, preferably between the boiler and the fuel hopper, for introducing cold or preheated secondary air in the form of a rotating current. In the form shown in the Figure, the air is introduced through the fore furnace arch 10 by means of a tube-piece 11 communicating by means of a channel 12 with the space 13 above a travelling grate 14 which is supplied with fuel by a hopper 15. The inlet end of the tube-piece 11 is provided with four equally spaced slits, one edge of each of which is bent inwardly, and the quantity of air supplied is varied by means of a cap 16 movable longitudinally by means of a handwheel 18.
