Filters having sheet filtering-materials. - In a petrol filter of the type in which a filtering element 14 is mounted on a. central hollow pillar 3 which serves both as inlet and outlet, the liquid enters through a pair of diametrically-opposed ports 10 and is discharged through a pair of ports 12 at right-angles to the ports 10. There may be a second pair of outlet ports 12* at right-angles to the ports 12. The casing is formed of a glass cylinder 1 with covers 2 held together by nuts 5, 5* screwing on to the pillar 3. The nuts may be formed with screwed parts 13 for connection to the inlet and outlet pipes. Plugged orifices in the covers 2 serve as drains or vents.
