Abstract

266,650. Yarrow, H. E. Dec. 17, 1926. Arches. - A furnace arch E is adapted to be moved horizontally or vertically by extending the framework F by which the arch is supported through the furnace walls and mounting it upon jacks G or other suitable gearing for raising or lowering the arch or tilting it about either end. The jacks are carried on runners H to provide for the horizontal movement of the arch. The brickwork I at the inner end of the arch is secured by bars j provided with T-shape heads engaging loosely with slots in the brickwork so that it may move vertically with the arch or maintain contact with the arch when tilted. The ignition arch K is mounted on a jack G' so that it may be moved vertically independently of the mainarch or be tilted to remain in alignment therewith. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the ignition arch is formed in two parts K<1>, K<2>, each of which may be moved vertically.
