Abstract
190,397. Golby, F. W., (Detrick Co., M. H.). March 14, 1922. Bricks, special shapes of.-A furnace arch comprises a main horizontal portion at the top, a curved portion forming an ignition arch at the front and a curved rear portion for directing the gases upwardly into contact with the boiler. The horizontal portion of the arch is formed of bricks 15, Fig. 1, provided with T-shape slots adapted to engage with the lower flanges 12<a> of bars 12 suspended by hangers 14 from transverse beams 11. The curved ignition arch is formed of wedgeshape bricks 29, Figs. 1 and 4, provided with T- shape slots adapted to engage with flanges 22 of frames 18 supported by suspension plates 20 from beams 19. Vertical flanges 26 on the frames 18 are provided to receive rectangular bricks 28 to form a front closure wall. Filling bricks 31 are provided between the bricks 29 and the bricks 15 in the top arch. The rear portion of the arch is composed of wedge-shape bricks 29, Fig. 7, supported on the flanges 35 of brackets 32 suspended by hangers 14 and keyed to the bars 12 at 34. To facilitate removal of the bricks a portion of each bracket 32 is made removable and is secured by a key 40. The upper part of each bracket may be provided, as shown, with a shelf 36 to support bricks 37 forming an apron wall. The space between the bricks 29 and the apron wall is closed by bricks 38 which are removed when it is desired to remove or renew any of the upper bricks. A modified construction of the rear portion of the arch is shown in Figs. 12 and 13. The wedge-shape bricks 46 which are half the width of the bricks 15 of the horizontal portion of the arch are supported on hangers 44 engaging with the flanges 35 of the rear brackets in such a manner that they may be moved longitudinally. The arms 45 of the hangers serve to conduct away the heat from the brackets.
