Abstract
266,525. Smith, R. H., and Shackteton, G. W. Feb. 5, 1926. Letting-off warps.-In let-off devices of the kind in which the braking action on the warp beam is controlled by a feeler, which varies its position according to the diameter of the warp on the beam, a hand lever situated between the end frames is provided for liberating the chains on the ends of the beam. As shown, the feeler rollers 2, Fig. 1, are mounted on a rod 3 guided in a bracket 4 and connected to a chain 5 attached to a weight 9 slidable on a bell-crank lever a. The feeler is held in engagement with the warp on the beam C by a spring 6. A chain 12 connected to an arm 10a of the bell-crank lever a passes around a pulley 13 on a bell-crank lever 14 and is connected to a chain 16 passing around a pulley 17a on a bell-crank lever 17, the end of the chain 16 being connected to a hand lever 18 normally maintained in the position shown by the engagement of a projection 18b with a stop 19a. The bell-crank levers 14. 17 are connected to brake chains passing round, the ends C<1>, C<2> of the warp beam. To release the tension on the brake chains, the handle 18 is turned in a clockwise direction. The warp beam is mounted on bearings 20, 20a shaped to receive the full diame. ter of the hoops on the beam, vertical projections 20b, 20c being provided for retaining the hoops on the bearing. The projections are formed with slots when beams having flanged hoops are employed. Instead of the chain 5 for holding the feeler rollers in engagement with the warp, the arrangement shown in Fig. 5 may be employed. The rod 3 carrying the rollers 2 is guided in a bracket 4 and has inclined teeth g adapted to mesh with teeth on the underside of a spring-controlled rod 22 guided in the bracket and connected at 22a to means for adjusting the weight on the chain-tensioning lever. As the rod 3 rises, the rod 22 moves to the left.
