Abstract

358,991. Letting-off warps in looms. CATTERALL, N., 18, Hardmans Lane, Bromley Cross, near Bolton. May 17, 1930, No. 15183. [Class 142 (ii).] A device for effecting an increased braking action on the warp beam during the beat up, in looms having friction let-off mechanism, comprises a lever 10, Fig. 1, provided at one end with a runner 14 for engagement with a cam 15 on the crank shaft 16 and connected at its other end by spring means to the braking chain 2 which encircles the beam. One end of the chain 2 is secured to a hook 3 on the frame, and the other is connected to the lever 10 by means of an adjustable spring device 8, The cam 15 is so positioned on the crank shaft that, on the forward movement of the sley, an anticlockwise movement about its pivot 10a is given to the lever 10 and an increased pressure is placed upon the warp beam. To facilitate the adjustment of the beam, there is provided a hand-actuated cam 13 which is arranged to bear against a bracket 12 on the frame and is connected by two links 11, Figs. 1 and 7, or in the manner shown in Fig. 8, to a guide pulley 5 around which the chain 2 is passed. In a modification, the lever 10 is extended towards the front of the loom and is provided with a cam surface for engagement with a runner mounted on the sley sword, the same movement as formerly being effected as the sley is advanced to the fell of the cloth.
