Abstract
424,966. Looms with stationary weft supplies; stop motions. BADDELEY, C. H., 5, Lindum Terrace, Bradford, Yorkshire. Aug. 28, 1933, No. 23818. [Classes 142 (i) and 142 (ii)] Weft supplying ; weft inserters, construction and operation.-Weft is drawn from a stationary supply O, Fig. 11, and inserted between the warp threads in a shuttleless loom by an eyed weft carrier T<1>, Fig. 7, mounted on the end of a metal tape T which is reciprocated by an oscillating drum D, Fig. 4, on the lay G. The drum may be driven by rack and pinion mechanism D<1>, D<2>, that is operated by a cam controlled lever A, or by a relatively stationary rack Fig. 9, (not shown), that can be positioned selectively in the path of a pinion on the lay, the latter pinion being operatively connected to the drum spindle by a train of gears. Rollers are arranged at intervals within the drum casing to facilitate movement of the tape and buffers are provided on the drum and the casing to prevent jamming. As the tape leaves the drum it is pressed towards the reed by an adjustable bowl on the lay. The weft carrier is weighted at T<6> and provided with two weft receiving eyes T<4>, T<5>. Selvedges, forming.-The loops of weft inserted by the needle or carrier are trapped at the selvedges by pivotally mounted fingers F, Fig. 6, which are carried by the lay G and are moved towards and away from the fabric by the engagement of a depending lever F<2> with stops F<7>, F<8> on the breast beam. In a modification, weft trapping fingers Fx, Fig. 10, are moved upwardly, under spring action, to engage the weft when a pin F<10> on the receding lay engages a fixed stop F<8>, the movement of the pin depressing a pivoted lever F<11> and releasing an arm F<9> associated with the trapper. Stop-motions, weft.-On weft breakage, a tensioning weight O' Fig. 11, positioned between the weft supply and the carrier, engages contacts M<1>, M<2> and operates an electric stop motion.
