Abstract

265,905. Seignol, E. Feb. 9, 1926, [Con. vention date]. Spray carburettors.-In carburettors, e.g. of the type described in Specifications 251,584 and 251.585, wherein rich mixture is produced in a primary carburettor situated for example near the fuel tank and is drawn through a tube of relatively large diameter into a secondary carburettor comprising a venturi through which the main air supply passes, the inlet to the venturi is provided with a valve the opening of which, when the throttle is opened, is retarded so as to prevent undue weakening of the mixture, faulty acceleration and stopping of the engine. Rich mixture, is delivered through a tube d to the engine side of the throat c of a venturi a located in the main passage which has a throttle-valve b, and a suction-actuated air inlet valve i in the form of a flap. Mixture for slow running is supplied through a tube h. The air flap i, pivoted at j, is connected through linkage k, l to the rod m, Fig. 2, of a piston n in a cylinder o which communicates with the atmosphere at rand with the engine side of the. throttle valve through a duct p controlled by a valve q. With the throttle closed, suction acts upon the piston and closes the air flap. Upon opening the throttle, the suction acts upon both the flap and the piston, but the flap being of larger area is opened, but only gradually, owing to the resistance offered to the downward movement of the piston n. In modifications, the application of the device to the two forms of carburettor disclosed in Specification 265.904 is described. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 21934/07 and 193.706.
