Abstract

Variable-speed gearing comprises a friction gear pair 7. 10 actuated by a variably-rotating shaft 1 and automatically controlled so as to drive a shaft 11 at a substantially constant speed. A governor 15 influenced by the variable drive functions to move the constantly-driven friction wheel 10 axially to keep the speed of the latter constant. The invention is applicable for driving a dynamo from the wind motor described in Specification 227,051, [Class 110 (iii), Turbines &c.]. The governor 5 may be carried by a countershaft 12 which is driven through a pair 2, 3 from the shaft 1, and which drives through a pair 4. 5 the shaft 6 of the driving disc 7 of the variable gear. The roller 10 is moved axially by a lever 16 supported on a fixed pivot 19 and having a suitable slot 18. A rod 17 slidable in fixed guides 22, 23 is moved up and down by the governor and by means of a pin &c. 17<1> engaging the slot 18 effects the required angular movements of the lever 16.
