Abstract
579,481. Speed governors. DERUNGS, E.A. April 27, 1944, No. 7909. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 27, 1944.] [Class 57] A centrifugal governor actuates a series of devices, such as rings 31, 32 on a rod 23, and a ring 41 on .a sleeve 40 slidable on the rod, by which controls, e.g., of the motor gear box and clutches and brakes of a vehicle are .effected, the,. relative positions of these devices being adjustable during running, e.g., by a pinion 21 engaging a toothed sleeve 35 having screw engagement with the sleeve 40 the pinion 21 may be driven at a speed varying with the power of the motor. A pulley 14 loosely mounted on the governor shaft normally drives this shaft through balls 15 engaging pits in the pulley and in an enlargement on the shaft. Sudden change of velocity causes these balls to rise from the pits, separating the pulley and the shaft enlargement and so actuating a braking device, e.g., through an electric switch. The controls may operate through electric or fluid pressure servo motors.
