Abstract
254,218. Penney, H. J. N. Feb. 3, 1926. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Variable-speed gearing comprises a driving- disc made up of flared segments A hinged upon the driving-shaft S and contacting with radiallvset conical rollers R, R<1>, R<2> which pass on the power to a single disc B feathered on the driven shaft S<1>. Engaging pressure is maintained by a spring O. Speed is varied by causing the segments A to open out or .close in so as to roll along the rollers R &c. This may be effected through links X and a piston Z in a cylinder P supplied with compressed air by a pump S<2>. The air pressure can be regulated by a governor G driven from the shaft S<1>.
