Abstract
265,289. Lloyd, W. D. M. Nov. 4, 1925. Actuated or applied by motor stopping or controlling appliances; skid.-A combined ignition cut-off and emergency brake for motor vehicles comprises a hand-lever a, or the handle of a rack- and-pinion gear, provided with a switch k for controlling the ignition and movable in one direction or the other to apply a scotch i in front or rear of the vehicle wheels. The scotches i are secured to arms q operated by levers c and a rod b and mounted on shafts d supported by brackets f which are fixed to the chassis side members and strengthened by transoms e. The ends of the arms g are threaded on the interrupted-screw system to enter a nut h let into the scotch from the bottom through an opening adapted to be filled with a piece of hard wood. The scotch is held fixed by a hook and staple. The switch also lights a red light at the rear of the vehicle. The scotch may be provided with a roughened steel face. A hand-lever may be fitted at the rear of the vehicle to allow operation of the device bv a conductor. The scotch is hollowed so that the tread of the tyre does not come in contact with it.
