Abstract
220,701. Griffiths, R. G. May 17, 1923. Skid; actuated or applied by speed regulators; actuated or applied by relaxation of pull.-Coinprises improved means for arresting vehicles, such as colliery trucks, on inclines, of the kind in which a skid released, by hand, bv the breaking of the cable, or by a centrifugal device, is interposed between the wheel and the track. Skids 7<a> mounted eccentrically of the wheel axles 9 are normally held clear of the track by pins 10 on the skids engaging spring-pressed pivoted levers 12. The latter are operated by cranked rods 17 carrying roller arms 18 resting upon cam bars 19, 23. The bar 23 is connected to the haulage cable 22 so that, should the latter break, the rollers on the arms 18 will be raised by the longitudinal movement of the cam bar to release the levers 12. The bar 19 may be shifted manually by a lever 21 inside the truck or automatically by a centrifugal governor device 29 should the vehicle attain an excessive speed.
