Abstract
267,034. Munn, C. A. Oct. 19, 1926. Arresting-grips or friction apparatus on permanent way.-Brake apparatus for rail vehicles comprises a yieldably mounted laminated braking bar or member mounted adjacent the track for engagement with the treads of the vehicle wheels. A laminated braking bar F is yieldably mounted by springs H and rods G on a longitudinal bar E secured to vertical bars D hinged to short vertical bars C which are supported by members C<1>, C<2>. The frame DE can be swung into and out of the operative position in which it engages the car wheel A by one or more handles D<1> or if it is desired to control the brake from a distance, the toggles K urged into the extended position by springs K<1> may be connected to the bars D, C<2> These toggles may be broken to move the bar into the inoperative position by a cord O or by a bell-crank lever. The laminated structure of the bar F permits it to yield locally when engaged with the wheels.
