Abstract

202,892. Lathauwer, A. de. Nov. 25, 1922. Arresting-grips or friction apparatus on permanent way. - A pair of bars mounted adjacent the running rails is adapted to be forced against the sides of the wheels by longitudinally movable wedges engaging transverse struts secured to the bars. The brake bars 2 are formed of lengths of running rail having the head disposed for engagement with the vehicle wheels 29 and the flange secured to struts 3 that slide in yokes 13 fixed to beams 5 fastened to soles 6 resting upon the sleepers 7. The struts 3 are engaged by wedges 4 pivotally connected by links 17, the end links being connected by levers and rods 19, 20, 21 to the lower arms of a vertical lever the upper arm of which is pivoted to a nut 26 on a screwed spindle 27 actuated by a hand-wheel 28. Guiding of the wedges 4 is effected by pins 15 projecting from the yokes 13 into slots 16 in the wedges. Bolts 10 secured to the soles 6 and passing through transverse slots in the bars 2 prevent the bars from lifting.
