Arresting grips or frictional apparatus on permanent way.-Brakes for pit tubs and like railway vehicles comprise a friction member f disposed outside the track, rigidly supported at one end, and adapted to be moved into contact with the vehicle wheel by a lever n acting on the other end. An angle iron guard having a wearing strip is disposed on the other side of the rail to take the thrust of the braking pressure. The lever n is operated by a hand-lever or motive-power operating-means p, A spring bolt i connects the member f to its supporting means. The lever n bears on the member f by means of a roller. Two or more levers may be used in the case of a. long friction member to allow for whip.
